Laser therapy in dentistry eliminates the cause of many common concerns including pain, drilling, and needles. It can also shorten the time spent in the dental chair and allow patients to enjoy faster healing from more invasive treatments.
Laser therapy is used in a number of ways at Rushmore Dental. For example, our Waterlase® hydrokinetic system is used to prepare teeth for fillings without using a drill. It eliminates the need for local anesthetics when addressing cavities and therefore, eliminates the fear patients have in filling cavities in the dental office.
Laser dentistry is also used in the treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria. Pockets may form when gum tissue pulls away from the teeth, and these pockets harbor more bacteria that can eat away at bone and gum tissue. Laser devices can be used to sterilize these pockets to address infection without harming the healthy surrounding tissues.
We also offer laser treatment for gum contouring. When patients are unhappy with their “gummy” smile and want to lengthen the appearance of their teeth, gum tissue can be skillfully removed for a more aesthetic look. This is also done with a laser which reduces bleeding and facilitates faster healing.
